Thundercats Stay Hot With Convincing 7-1 Win Against Lucknow
The Durham Thundercats stayed hot on home ice last Friday night, cruising to a dominant 7–1 win over the visiting Lucknow Lancers. The Cats came out strong, controlling play from the opening puck drop and getting contributions from up and down the lineup, improving to 3-0-0 on the season.
First Period
The Thundercats wasted no time taking control on home ice Friday night. Patrick Brown opened the scoring early with his first career OEHL goal, finishing off a feed from Riley O’Connell to give Durham the lead. The momentum continued as rookie Chase Lorenz found the back of the net twice before the end of the period—marking his first OEHL goals as well. His first came off a setup from Austin Griffin and Justin Graham, and his second from Ryan Colquhoun and Graham. The Thundercats dictated the pace and took a commanding 3–0 lead into the intermission.
Second Period
Durham carried their strong play into the middle frame. Luke Eurig extended the lead on a nice passing play from Brody LeBlanc and Kyler Nixon to make it 4–0. Lucknow answered back midway through the period with their lone goal of the night, but goaltender Marshall Nicholls stood tall the rest of the way, turning aside every other Lancer chance to keep Durham in full control.
Third Period
The Thundercats’ depth shone in the final frame. Brown struck again for his second of the game, set up by O’Connell and Luke Graham. Ryan Colquhoun added a shorthanded tally after strong pressure on the penalty kill. Nixon capped off the night with a power play goal from Eurig and Graham, closing out a dominant 7–1 victory in front of the home crowd.
Game Notes
Durham’s offense continues to roll with contributions from every line. The Thundercats’ special teams were effective, and Nicholls was steady in goal.
Areas to improve include discipline, as a handful of unnecessary penalties gave Lucknow extra opportunities. The Lancers had 7 power play chances but went 0/7 thanks to Durham’s strong penalty killing. Staying composed and out of the box will be key moving forward.
The LiUNA Local 1059 Hardest Worker of the Game went to Chase Lorenz, who scored twice in the first period for his first career OEHL goals and brought energy all night long.
Honourable mention goes to goaltender Marshall Nicholls, who turned aside 23 of 24 shots in another steady performance between the pipes.
With the win, the Thundercats improve to 3-0-0 and will look to stay undefeated as the Elmvale Harvesters come to town this Friday night. Puck drops at 8:30PM, proudly presented by KNK Lawn Care and Pest Control.
